PLASTICS
Alda Plastics use acrylic plastics / plastic
glass / Perspex and Plexiglas
for boat windows, boat hatches,
stowage for glassware etc., point
of sale displays i.e. leaflet holders, museum
display cases, and machine guards. There are many processes
involved in manufcaturing goods in acrylic.
The real name fro acrylic plastic is
polymethyl methacrylate and it is thermoplastic. Plexiglas
is a brand name for perspex which is a clear,
transparent thermoplastic synthetic resin.
Plexiglas is often misspelt as "plexiglass".
Bending and welding of
acrylics are processes used in manufacture
e.g. machine guards, fish tanks, skylight replacements
etc. Plastic bending, e.g. line
bending, creates the tight bends on formable
sheets of plastic.
Characteristics of 'acrylic' the material / acrylic
plastic include that it is half the weight of glass,
resistant to impact, it is not affected by salt or spray
(hence it is good for boat windows and hatches), and
has a temperature range of -30 to 160° F for continuous
use.Plexiglas was the first acrylic to become impact-modified,
and was a cross between standard acrylic and polycarbonate.
